Brave of US July update

As we headed into July 4th, the MAGA Justices on the Supreme Court marked the 250th anniversary of the country with a shameful series of decisions targeting immigrant communities, from ending Temporary Protected Status for hundreds of thousands of our neighbors and loved ones (call your Senator to demand action) to limiting asylum for those who bravely moved here to seek a better life.

But the Brave of US have been fighting back – hard. The reality is that the politicians in power are scared of losing. That’s why as we head to November’s elections, they’re working overtime to divide us based on where we’re from, limit who can make their voices heard at the ballot box, and try to decide who gets to be American.

We know that through our bravery and solidarity, we can make this truly the land of the free. Here’s what the Brave of US coalition has been up to in May and June.

Minuto 90 & the World Cup: Let Them Go

The World Cup has taken center stage – and it should be a moment of joy, multiculturalism, and unity. Instead, the Trump regime’s xenophobia and anti-immigrant policies have created two Americas: on the one hand, fans from across the globe are filling American stadiums, while on the other, people are imprisoned in ICE concentration camps just miles away.

Our partners at Minuto 90 have been on the ground at games across the country with their Let Them Go campaign (Website // Instagram). They’ve created powerful graphics mapping ICE concentration camps near every World Cup stadium – and adapted Shakira’s World Cup anthem to reflect the real America immigrants are living in right now.

The message spread widely on Instagram, with collective views over 700,000 across just two of the posts uplifting Let Them go content (Defiance Dispatch and content creator Jordan Uhl). Watch and share here.

Refugee Advocacy Lab: Training Communicators Across the Country

Anat Shenker-Osorio joined a coalition of communications practitioners in refugee advocacy, training them on messaging best practices and how to use Brave of US to break a signal through the noise to truly make this the land of the free. The training empowered Refugee Advocacy Lab and members of the coalition with a shared framework that has structured their work together since, enabling them to align on narrative and sing from the same song book.
